Probiotics With SIBO

A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭
Mooers, NY

Hi All,

I am new to this site. I have suffered from IBS-M for years and recently discovered I have SIBO. I am currently taken Xifaxan to help with the SIBO. I am wondering if it is good to take probiotics with SIBO - or even eat yogurt for that matter. One doctor told me yes and another said no.

Hi. I had SIBO too. Xifaxan I took also. Amoxicillin and flagyl work also for parasites. Probiotics can go 2 ways. It can aggravate your gut by producing too much bacteria which then makes gas. Yogurt… read more

SIBO - Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth

Has anyone else been diagnosed with SIBO? I've rarely seen it mention when researching IBS, but the new doctor I went to yesterday suggested a modified fodmap diet that eliminates additional foods to address it. You can get tested for SIBO but I decided to just start treatment right away without confirmation of the test, because I am so desperate to feel better.

I think I heard somewhere that you should not use probiotics when you have SIBO but I am not 100% sure.A pharmacist would be able to give you the correct answer ! ❤️

Is It IBS?

A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭
Dudley, UK

2 years ago I had tests originally for IBD and when all of those tests were negative, the conclusion was IBS. I have struggled recently with accepting this as a diagnosis because I feel amazing most of the time but when I have a flare it can knock me off my feet and I struggle then mentally with worrying about whether or not I am feeling better. I do not take regular medication for my IBS-d, as my doctor has said if it's bad use Imodium and for the bloating peppermint tablets. Has anyone else… read more

Weight Gain? Has Anyone Experienced This Even If You Can Barely Eat?

A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭
Corpus Christi, TX

I know personally I retain a lot of fluid during my flare ups. But I've gained and I really don't eat much when I do. I've gain up to 20lbs being sick and all I can do is sleep through it.

A myIBSteam Member

Yes it's hard to lose or maintain weight I think its inflammation and water retention and when you feel well I take advantage and eat up while I can so that's why I think I have 10 lbs that comes off… read more
